My newest obsession

For the past month or so I have been a bit obsessed with nail polish. I’m not sure where it originated. As the dutiful child of Asian parents, I was forced to endure a decade of piano lessons. The two things I gained from that experience? I am a pretty fast typist, and I keep my nails cut short.

I still like short nails, but right now I am trying to keep about 1/16″ of white showing. I’m still pretty terrible at applying nail polish, but that does not deter me. I’ve been redoing my polish about every 5 days. I don’t have a ton of polishes, but I would like to try nail polish from Rescue Beauty Lounge and Deborah Lippmann. I also do not yet own any OPI polishes.

Anyway, since I love Japanese cosmetics, I figured I should see what Japanese nail polish is like. I bought this super cute Dolly Wink nail polish on ebay (this seller has the best price). The bottle is teeny tiny, so you don’t get much product. The brush is thick and will effectively cover most of the nail with one stroke. Good pigment, too. I kind of want the whole collection now, of course.

Wet n’ Wild Megalast nail polishes are amazing! They are very chip-resistant, come in a rainbow of trendy colors, and are really cheap-where I live, $1.99 each. I have two in almost every color.

  2. I need to start buying more small bottles. I paint mine so infrequently now that a regular bottle will sit around for years & eventually dry up.

I have been eyeing the black shatter by OPI though!

Love the sparkly orange! I agree with the small bottle idea – I never seem to use up any color before it dries up in the bottle. This is not so much of issue with top coats, etc. as I do finish those. You’ll love Opi above all others – such chip resistance, such a smooth finish!

I get my nails done every few weeks right now, because I have nails firmly in the 1/4 inch of white category. Thankfully having done this before, my typing speed has remained mostly unaffected.

Uh-boy, another of my passions 😉 Do not go to Makeup Alley dot com and peruse their Nail Board. You’ll be spending lost hours there drooling over their manicures and color swatches and np hauls!

the best tip i ever got on painting my own nails, which i used to mangle horribly, was to not try to go all the way to the cuticle & the edges with the polish…stay just a bit away from them on all sides. help keep it looking neater, and no one else will notice unless your fingers are right in their eyeballs. i was truly terrible, though…polish all over the cuticles and when i tried to clean it up, it just made more of a mess.

you should also stay away from temptalia’s nail polish swatch gallery. ;]

Welcome to my obsession. I don’t bother with my fingernails but my toes are ALWAYS painted, even through winter. And I have so much nail polish I had to start storing some in the guest bathroom. I can’t seem to stop buying either, especially the quick-dry colors that are out right now. I used to spend thursday evening watching TV and giving myself a 3-hour multi-coat pedicure (base coat, 2 coats of color, top coat baby!) but now it has to take an hour or less. My friends ask me to bring the polish to girl’s night. It’s truly an obsession. Oh, and for my money OPI is great, with great colors, but I also like Rimmel, Wet n Wild, NY Color and Sally Hansen to name a few. Okay, I’ll stop now.

Oh, forgot to mention sparkles ROCK. And neon green with sparkles causes small children to point at your toes and say “Mom, look at that!!” when you’re sitting in the park. And the only matching thing I made my bridesmaids wear for my wedding was fuchsia toenail polish… Okay, I’m stopping! = )

  10. OPI! Today’s pedi color…Pink Before You Leap. Pretty sheer, with lots of sparkle.

I keep my fingernails really short for guitar (and piano before that). It’s not worth painting them most of the time. Love your orange!

You have got to get over here and see the nail polish in my 14 yo’s room. It’s a museum of nail polish. Changing every 5 days is just LETTING YOURSELF GO. I don’t think she knew about the Japanese products, though; that will make her very happy.

    OPI Mermaids Tears…my new favorite!

Looks absolutely great… I love the two colors go great together
