more knits

MORE KNITS, people! I also got this fabric from Girl Charlee. It is supposed to be all cotton, and perhaps it is. It is quite lightweight and super drapey. Now, I generally go for a pretty traditional style of t-shirt, but I thought I’d go out on a limb and try to whip up one of the drapey, boxy t-shirts that the younguns seem to be wearing these days. I cobbled together a pattern using this Tamanegi Kobo pattern. I brought the armholes up a bit and made French sleeves, and I lengthened it a bit because I was not going to use the band. The armholes are still pretty gaping, but I don’t really care. The shirt is very comfy and came out better than I thought! If people don’t like being able to see my bra if I lift up my arms, they can look away!

I made this t-shirt dress using the same fabric. I adapted the raglan t-shirt pattern that has been so popular in my sewing room, har har. When I first made it Peter thought it was too long and suggested I shorten it by “several inches.” I followed his advice, and now I think it is a bit on the short side. It is also somewhat clingy. In other words, it is a bit sluttier than I prefer, but I guess it isn’t SUPER slutty.

You could combine the two and have a short dress with bra exposing armholes and your popularity would rise exponentially. Or skip the bra and the world is your oyster. 🙂 That dress is not too short.

I don’t think the dress is too short either. Peter was on target here (though I miss his pithy commentary). You can always wear the dress with leggings if you’re worried about showing lady meat in public.

I like the boxy tee too, you used a great drapey material for that and it works. If you want to make another one there is a free pattern on Grainline for a boxy tee that’s super cute. AND McCall’s patterns are .70 at Joann’s right now…(clearly I’m feeling the need to enable you since I bought a few new patterns and some material.)

yo super slutty, I LOVE THEM BOTH. can we pick a week for next summer when one of us travels to the other (SIGH I ASSUME IT WILL BE ME) and we spend the whole week whipping up cute t-shirts?!?!!? because I could use the helpful motivation of someone sewing alongside me, especially someone who knows better what they’re doing.

my other question is if I want to blow a bunch of dough on another machine with knits in mind, should I get a serger or an overstitch/coverlock whatever that thing is called.

I like you lookin’ all slutty.

You don’t look slutty to me, but I know my husband is always trying to get me into shorter clothing too. Sometimes it works, but a lot of times I just feel like I’m too exposed.

in no way do you look slutty – just cute.
