So glad to hear you're okay! We felt the earthquake in Los Angeles, and friends in the Bay Area did too, which made me think it was absolutely enormous.
Posted by Marielle at December 22, 2003 05:28 PMMariko! I'm glad you (and your Fire-King) are OK. Earthquakes are very freaky. There was a semi-big one (a 6-ish) here in Taiwan just a month after we got here, and it really freaked me out. Every time there's a minor one, you think, "Is this a big one?" Terrifying. How sad that that old building came down, too.
I love your cute pink spotted bag! And the action-knitting shot. Hilarious.
Posted by alison at December 22, 2003 05:45 PMhey! glad to hear that you all, and the fire king, made it through the quake.
being away from friends and family still in cali, whenever i hear a news report about a quake...
dang!
SOOOOOOOOO glad to hear you're fine (but shaken--pun intended). When I saw that the quake was in Paso Robles, I knew we had someone out there....and I was rather worried when I saw it was you (cuz I don't want you harmed!).
Hang in there, kiddo. And the Fuzzy Wuzzy Candy Scarf is nearing completion!
Posted by Rob at December 22, 2003 07:24 PMI'm soooo glad you and Peter are fine! Did your poochie warn you it was coming? Was in Long Beach and didn't feel a thing, drove up home and the first I heard of it was in your neck of the woods, yikes. Take care and put your feet up.
Posted by Silvia at December 22, 2003 08:39 PMWhat scary photos of downtown. I'm glad you are fine, erm, only shaken up. I read it was "only" a minute long, but I bet it was an extremely long minute.
Posted by Lisa at December 22, 2003 09:00 PMGood to hear you are OK. Lots of earthquakes in the Tokyo area since I moved here in July. It freaks me out every time. Once I was in a department store, and the shelves started swaying back and forth, and the clerks kept ringing people up and carrying on with business. I was like, "Get me out of here!" Thanks for visiting my blog. :-)
Posted by Jennifer at December 22, 2003 09:17 PMGlad to hear you and yours were safe from the quake... scary.. Up here outside of Vancouver BC we are an a major fault line. The fear of the big one is here too...
Something I always seem to get coherced into making is pumpkin cheesecake for Cmas and TG dinners... Yummy and sure to please, email if you want the recipe.
Posted by Amy in BC at December 22, 2003 09:44 PMAs much as I can relate to wanting to protect the Fireking, next time just get under a table!
Good to know you're safe and sound.
Posted by Jessica at December 23, 2003 12:12 AMMarge! Lupe called to tell us that they were all okay at SLIME. When I found out it was in Paso the first thing I thought of was the HW cabinet full of the King! Thanks for the pictures of downtown -- you had better coverage than the Telegram Tribune.
Posted by Taya at December 23, 2003 01:17 AMWhat a scary experience that must have been, I'm just glad that you are both OK.
Hope the holidays improve from here!
Posted by kerrie at December 23, 2003 01:34 AMI am so glad you're OK--this is the first I've heard of the earthquake (amazing how cave-like my existence can get). I've never experienced an earthquake and just the idea makes me feel ooky. Whew.
Not to trivialize the incident, but hey, you've got a Blue Meanie! I've got a little squeezy Glove.
Posted by Em at December 23, 2003 02:21 AMSo glad there was no harm to you and yours...including the Fire-King. Scary though.
Posted by Bliss at December 23, 2003 05:38 AMso glad you are okay...geeky girl wants to know if you have the quake clay that conservators use in museums to secure pottery to shelves in quake prone areas...cuz i don't want to see a picture of you in a pile of glass shards under a fallen china hutch....ok ok, end of mama lecture...just worried, ya know? and LOVE the blue meany!
Posted by greta at December 23, 2003 05:59 AMWhat you said: "it takes more than a 6.5 to take down Super Eggplant"! Knit on.
Posted by claudia at December 23, 2003 06:03 AMYou survived! Glad you and yours are safe. 6.5 is a big quake!
I'm glad you're OK, Mariko. I lived in Palm Springs in '92 when the Landers quake hit -- I've never experienced anything quite so scary in my life! We didn't feel anything here in San Diego.
Posted by Amy at December 23, 2003 07:48 AMSo glad you're ok! We felt it up here in the Bay Area, but considering how unnerving the mild swaying was to me, I can imagine how scary it must have been there!
Posted by Joanna at December 23, 2003 08:45 AMGlad to hear you are ok! Up here (in Manteca) we never felt a thing but the news from your town was so scary...it is so sad that it happened, especially during the holiday season.
Yours is one blog I try to read daily-I love your wit and insights!
Thank God you're all ok! Man alive, I'll take a kaput 'fridge to having the earth move under me like that any day! I liked those Kenmore bottom drawer-freezer models, too. Great minds & all, ya know. :) Highly recommend chocolate-covered cherry cake! I've got the Chocolate Cake Mix Dr., too. He. Must make something from it next. :->
Posted by Meg at December 23, 2003 01:03 PMWow, how scary! Glad you guys are okay.
