Despite what you might think, I was never a Trekkie. I remember coming home from school every day and watching a whole lineup of shows, like the Brady Bunch and Bewitched. Star Trek came on at 4pm or 5pm, I can’t remember which, and inevitably I would fall asleep. So anyway, I was never a huge fan, but now I kind of like the actors. William Shatner is kind of insane in a self-parodying way, what with the Travelocity commercials and his crazy CD, and that Leonard Nimoy Spock dude is always interesting, but my favorite is George Takei. Never mind that he is one of my people–I have liked him ever since I saw him in the flesh nearly 2 decades ago. I lived for a brief time in Los Angeles, and I liked participating in fun runs. There was a Chinatown run that went near Dodger Stadium or something. I remember crossing the finish line and hearing that unmistakable deep voice say, “Where’s the beer tent.” I looked over and saw a sweaty George Takei!
