okay, so I’m kind of a loser

Yeah, so I go to Vancouver, BC, one of the most beautiful cities evah, and the only photos I take are of french fries (or pommes frites, if you prefer). Would it help if I said they were really, really good fries? They are from Fritz European Fry House. As you can see, they have poutine! I had never tried it before, and really, I have always wanted to, since it sounded like my ideal meal: french fries with cheese curds and gravy. Yum! Fritz offers a bunch of different dipping sauces for the fries. I don’t remember which ones we got, but they were good!

The weather in Vancouver was absolutely gorgeous, and it was sunny and cool for the race (the Vancouver Half-Marathon), which snaked through downtown and then all the way around Stanley Park. Vancouver also has pot clubs (for all you stoners out there) and sells codeine-laced medications over the counter. Rock on, rockah!

You can get Tylenol 1 with codeine pretty much anywhere here. They are my special friends. Though I haven’t been past Ontario so I only assume they are available in every province.
    I love, love, love poutine.

Wow, the poutine looks amazing! Yeah, my grandma used to go up every year for her Tylenol stash- she’d use it as a sleeping aid, as well as pain reliever. Only slightly scary…

drugs and poutine. glad that you are finally getting your priorities straight.
i went to fritz today…it’s not my favorite place.

that poutine looks like a mighty fine meal to me.

Okay that place is on my list to try on my next trip there. The fry house, not the pot clubs, that is.

  8. Tracie says:

Haha! I live in vancouver and I have never even heard of Fritz. Where is it? It looks like some fine damn fries though….

So there we were both running the same race and I missed my chance to meet you in person! It was a beautiful day for a race. I had such a grand time. I hope you did too!

Oooh, those look tasty and not so nutritious – I think it’s sort of funny that Vancouver has both stoner clubs and excellent junk food…. no surprise there!

I see you as having your priorities in line. We had poutine after a day of skiing in Tremblent, QC a year ago. It was the first time “evah” and we really thought it was strange and delicious. It got down to fork wars. (from the lady in Rochester, NY who feels like a voyeur reading your blog!)

Poutine is one of the things I can’t imagine eating. I think I’ve been a vegetarian too long. My husband, however, would go crazy happy for it. Potatoes and cheese! with bad for you sauces would be pretty high on his list of favorite things.

Yum, thanks for the recommendation! We were just in Vancouver this week and had some poutine at Fritz’s, thanks to you. Yum!

I love Vancouver! I love french fries! I love fries and gravy, but am not as passionate about poutine.
Next time you’re in Vancouver, if you’re a carnivore, you have to hit up a Memphis Blues BBQ House. The one we go to is on Commercial, but I believe they have two or three other locations throughout the GVA area. Yummmmmm.

Next time, you MUST hit up a De Dutch Pannekoek House. It may sound a bit steep for a big pancake, but it is just .so. .good. And congratulations on the first poutine!
