matcha sweets

I’ve been meaning to make these Green Tea Sweets ever since the recipe was posted by Amai Bakery owner Kelli Bernard. Well, it only took me a year! I was coaxed into making these by Thuy, who was up visiting this week. Many recipes that claim to be matcha-flavored sweets are often disappointing, displaying wimpy and timid matcha flavors. These Green Tea Sweets, however, actually taste like matcha and have a buttery, shortbread texture. This recipe is a keeper! Thank goodness Thuy made me make them.

What a coinkydink–I just experimented adding matcha to a shortbread recipe last night. They were good, but not quite matcha-y enough. I added a bit to the sanding sugar, though, and it helped.
I can’t wait to try this recipe, though!

Bless you forever for the link to those cookies. Searching for a spelt roll recipe for my sister I came across this and thought you might be interested: http://havecakewilltravel.com/2008/02/29/matcha-spelt-rolls-with-bittersweet-chocolate-filling-and-almond-icing/
