George highlights Japan Unmasked

I almost forgot how I was going to post the highlighted passages from Japan Unmasked. The book has that musty, old-book odor, and it’s kind of grossing me out right now. Anyway, the passages my father highlighted are pretty funny. Here’s today’s installment:
” . . . Japanese as a whole feel a deep inferiority complex toward foreigners, especially Caucasians.”
Can you believe this book was written by a Japanese person?

God no! Inferiority complex? The nerve of the writer!

  2. Laurie says:

When was the book written? Because we GOTTA be looking like redneck doofuses to everyone by now…

  3. Donna says:

If the musty odor of the book is really giving you problems, you can try shaking baking soda into the pages and letting it sit for a day or two, then just brush the baking soda out. I used to be a used book dealer and would occasionally get musty books.

  4. Susan M says:

Uhhhhhh. I’m caucasion and I’m intimidated by Japanese people! Well, not really, but I feel like Laurie says…a big doofus by comparison.

  5. Lulu says:

Am very impressed you are reading this book as I seem to recall you not liking used books…bahahahaha.

  6. megan says:

thank you for getting back to that book. DO NOT throw it out. if it’s too musty i’ll take it. i miss george 🙁

  7. Tesia says:

Is this for real? On what basis did he write such stuff?

  8. Sawa says:

I actually think the inferiority complex thing was true, at least back in the 80s (and the early 90’s). I’m Japanese and I mostly grew up in Japan. For example, almost all the magazines used to feature exclusively caucasian models and biracial models back then, weird if you think about it…same with the commercials and such!
I’m not sure this is true now, though. I have not been back for so long (and when I do go back I don’t stay long enough to get an accurate *feel* )

Now that it’s getting colder would you please put another pic/post of your more beautiful than words magic espresso machine? Esp since I am sipping my cappucino from McD’s…
As for the quote, that’s kind of scary funny…

  10. oh yeah, that statement rings true in so many ways. I totally agree with that feeling but wonder why this writer believes it to be true, he’s Japanese isn’t he????
