my everchanging gauge

Wow, some knitting content! I have one sleeve left to knit on bpt/blt:

You know, I think my gauge has changed drastically during the course of this sweater. Also, the cables on the front look kind of goofy, like they are completely different designs or something. It’s either that or an optical illusion. Or my eyes.
Giant thanks to all of you who have supported cancer-fighting Megan by purchasing products from the Chemo Megan shop. I got a check from CafePress the other day and was thus able to make a donation to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and to Megan. Megan has ONE MORE chemo session remaining. Fight the fight, people!

Your bpt is looking awesome, Mariko! You’re right about those front cables, though — they look different. Weird. Of course, only other knitters will ever notice. Anyway, it looks great. Minty fresh, actually!
    (I love “hot closspan”!)

Great colour choice, that yarn looks all fresh and yummy. The cables do look a little different but I wouldn’t worry about it, if any ones asks its a design feature baby!

  3. Kerstin says:

Very pretty, Mariko. Now I’m wondering about why the cables turned out like that. I’ll have to look at the pattern. My guess is that the ones on the right weren’t “turned” the right way. They are laying on top of each other instead of crossing . . .

Love that color! Upon closer inspection of the cables it’s not your imagination they do look “odd”. Maybe blocking may help…. Maybe no one else will notice…. Maybe you’ll see pigs fly…. It’s a tough call for all your time and effort.
By the way I’ve got one…my mother use to alway call the oven “ohven”. If you’ve ever heard Wolfgang Puck he says it the same way but with an Austrian accent.

yeah the left ones are way more twisty (or left in the picture, right on the bod). strange. but i think you can learn to live with it, right?!?!

  6. Bethanie says:

Ok, now remember, I’m a newbie at this knitting thing, but the cables do look differnt. I love the color though!

  7. Becky says:

I think that color is great! I wouldn’t worry about the cables. The cables are symmetrical and appear to be worked correctly, but it looks like the ones that were done closer to the left edge (end of rows) were worked a little more loosely than the ones at the right edge (beginning of rows). Maybe that’s why they look different?

  8. Silvia says:

How cute would that sweater look with a polka dot skirt? I agree with the others, those cable look a bit different though I couldn’t begin to tell you why. It doesn’t bother me (probably wouldn’t have noticed), but you’re the boss.

  9. rebecca says:

I love it too! What yarn is that, Mission Falls maybe? I can see what you’re saying about the cables, but I thought maybe it was just a light/shadow thing?

  10. btw, did you get my thank you email. i hope you did. i am all agog w/ happiness over it. 🙂

  11. Rachael says:

I have to tell Mom about the hot closspans. In face, I believe Easter is fast approaching, I may just make some myself here soon…. The baby sweater is looking darling. Good on ya.

  12. Deb says:

Maybe you’ve invented a new stitch? I actually like the way it looks – soft & dainty – it goes with the colour of the sweater.

  13. Melissa says:

I like the color of the sweater and how the cable runs along the underside of the sleeve. Alison is right, only a knitter studying the cables would notice.
