spiro gyro

I haven’t been sewing much lately, but I have quite a bit of fabric and all the best intentions, so I decided to get off my duff and sew something this weekend:

The fabric is Michael Miller’s “spiro gyro,” which I ordered, I think, from the Cotton Shop. I made up the pattern, which probably isn’t the best idea, since I am terrible with sizing and fit. I had been planning to put some dingleballs on it, but Peter commented that the fabric design was busy enough already. He also mentioned that he would not be seen with me if the skirt were laden with pink dingleballs. I don’t find that very fair, since I would be proud to be seen with him if he were wearing some dingleballs.

Great skirt! Peter might be right that that particular skirt does not want for dingleballs. He’s not against dingleballs in general, is he? Because that would be wrong. That would be like being against sunshine or chocolate.

I love the skirt! Maybe some understated black dingleballs wouldn’t be in poor taste? I’m a big fany myself. Especially of the beaded ones!
I can’t sew that well, so I am in awe. I found some fabric when cleaning this weekend and am sorely tempted to make a short flowy skirt out of it even though I have no idea what I’m doing.

Cute skirt! I’ve been thinking I should get off MY duff and sew up some skirts. I can’t find any in the store I like. (I am finding cute tanks left and right though. Woohoo!) Dingleball could be your new pet name for Peter. 😉

Ooooh, I love the skirt! Since I’m catching up here, I also love Split Personality, the yarn you scored on eBay, and the amazing looking tart. Mmmmmmm.

Cool skirt! The fabric reminds me of the spirograph thingy I had when I was a kid.

How cute are you! Dingleballs, fringe or even ribbon trim would be grand, though it’s completely cute as is.

SO CUTE! And I’m down with your dingleball idea. Or how about a small pleated ruffle (I’m talking like an inch) in the skirt fabric with a little contrasting rick-a-rack (or is it brick-a-brack?) to hide the seam? Might be a little less traumatic to your man.

Hey, very nice! It’s hard to imagine trim on such a funky fabric, but dingleballs are just so tempting!

I’m no fashion expert, but go with the dingleballs. Peter is only jealous that he can’t figure out how to get dingleballs on his new sail!!

  12. Kielbasa says:

Oh hell yes, I found you.

  13. Terri says:

Awesome skirt! And I agree with Sue, it made me think immediately of the good ol’ spirograph I had as a kid. 🙂

  14. Kerrie says:

OK – I dont know what dingleballs are (its either not a UK thing or I just missed out!) but I say go for it!

  15. rae says:

very cute skirt! have to tell ya though, i’m drooling over your GREEN, THICK, GRASS! wow! now that’s really gorgeous stuff : )

I am curious about your made-up pattern. It looks good. Did you use darts? I am pretty new to sewing but feel ok with making up skirt patterns. The problem is I haven’t used darts before and I don’t know if I should do them for a first time on a made-up pattern.
