come a gully washer

It’s been raining like crazy around here lately, so I figured it was high time I made Deedle a raincoat. It just didn’t seem fair that I can put on my fancy raincoat while she just gets drenched. I had been mulling over a design for some time, and it turned out sort of like I had envisioned.

And a side view:

It’s a little baggy. I guess I overcompensated for the fact that most readymade dog clothing is too tight around her bulbous chest. Anyway, it is basically a lycra body (so the dirt splashing up won’t soil her tummy) with a Goretex upper. It’s sort of like a rain fly for a tent. She doesn’t seem to mind wearing it, either!

That is hilarious!! You are just too clever! Some people have the ideas and some people have the skill but you have both. Lucky Deedle!

Love the coat. Actually I’ve been reading your blog for a while and I really enjoy reading about all of your sewing projects. I just learned to sew this year – well they tried to teach me back in 8th grade but it just didn’t take.
Anyway have a happy new year!!

Mariko, How do you even get Deedle to go out when it’s raining since Basenji’s are notorious for avoiding any kind of wetness? I always had trouble knittin a sweater for mine, such an odd shaped body. Is Deedle a “bad-senji” like my Leda was? Happy New Year to you both.

you should sell that pattern! i know there’s many a days after a rainy day hike with my dog bent over our bathtub washing away 10 lbs. of dirt off of him. that’s no fun.

The coat fits better than the one I remembered her wearing before. You did a great job with it though. She poses so nicely for the camera.

  17. Terri says:

She certainly is one stylin’ hound! Much better than the poncho affair. And she looks like she’s just waiting to get out there and get her toes wet 🙂

  18. Stella says:

It looks very classy! A dog raincoat with dignity. I think Deedle looks like the mailman… hm.

  19. Katherine says:

I looked at the photos and thought, SuperDeedle! It kind of looks a cape with superpowers…hmm.

I love Deedle and her new coat! Oh my goodness! I am such a frustrated wanna be dog parent! We have two boy cats, but I would LOVE a dog! Won’t happen though as one of my boys is am alpha, half blind very territorial sort of feline!

For moisturizer to wear under your make-up, try Stila “sheer color” tinted moisturizer with spf15. Not sure of the cost, I had been using my daughter’s so she got me my own for Christmas. It’s not at all greasy and the tint is just enough. My daughter can actually wear it alone as makeup, but alas I have “rosacea” plus sensitive skin so it provides a little lightness and makes my makeup look so much better. I know Sephora carries it…
