and now it is time for lycra

Well hello there my moisturized friends. Thank you for all the suggestions! Now I have a huge list of moisturizers to try.
Okay, so as I threatened, I’m going to show you some multipurpose exercise pants I sewed up! I made the photos kind of small so you wouldn’t be too frightened (if you had told me a year ago that I would eventually post lycra-clad photos of myself, I wouldn’t have believed you):

The ones on the left are cotton lycra (Mrs. H sent me the fabric a while back), and the ones on the right are nylon lycra (got the fabric at Rose City Textiles when I was in Portland). I basically made up the pattern, using a pair of storebought capris (from lucy.com) for inspiration. Peter is rather dismayed that I made such loud and crazily patterned bottoms, but what can I say? Though I do believe that form-fitting exercise bottoms should be black (it’s so slimming!), in reality I am drawn to brightly colored, whacked out fabric designs. At least no cars will hit me when I’m out running …

    Heehee! They’re fun!

  2. Jenn says:

I think they’re very cute and I love the serge stitching you’ve done on them. Very professional!

  3. Tiffany says:

Oooh – I especially love the ones on the right. The serger stitch makes them ultra-fun. I would be inclined to get my butt up and exercise too if I had pair. Now black seems so boring.

Hey these are great! So much more fun than the usual black. Love the Deedle raincoat too, been thinking of making similar for my soggy dog. Maybe you should be marketing all these great ideas! (Says the woman who could not sew to save her life..) I’m in for a doggie raincoat, do you know you cannot buy them anywhere around here in wet BC??

  5. Stasia says:

How absolutely fun – great job! They look super (eggplanty!) on you. 🙂 Love the pink clogs as well.
Thank your brother for me for the icon tips, please. I got it figured out and got everything set, but it doesn’t seem to agree with Blogger’s “digestion”. 🙁

dang woman, those are the cutest.

  7. Meredith says:

You could so have your own sportswear boutique! I’m sure there are tons of runners who would love to have some fabulous capris like this. And I love those shoes, by the way…where’d you snag those babies?

  8. Mary-Heather says:

Wow! If I had supercute workout pants like these, I might, you know… actually work out!
    Adorable!

those are totally cool, how ’bout some yoga pants next? — and i love those clogs too — it was fun reading all the moisturizer comments — i loved working in dermatology several yrs ago and learned a lot — several of the “pharmacy” brand moisturizers mentioned are the bomb, esp aveeno…
    love your blog —

Black pants would totally bring down the shoes. Been coveting an orange pair of those. So pratique for gardening. I mean, if you garden.

Those turned out great! I like the contrasting outside seam too.

  12. Heidi says:

Holy cow, you made up a *pants* pattern?? I’m impressed!
3D design has never been one of my strong suits (that’s why I flunked “Jewelry” in high school). I’m in awe of people who can conceive of the odd curves and shapes of the body, in loud stretchy fabric no less!

  13. ang says:

Bright colors and flashy patterns rock! NIce job. =)
You’re going to be running in them anyway right? It will just make you look “faster”. =)

  14. hannah says:

wow mariko! such bright colors and toned legs, im so jealous!
my late entry into the moisturizer debate is neutrogena spf 15 for sensitive/oily skin, works great and is cheap.
oh and thank you for the gingersnaps recipe, i made some yesterday and ate waaaay too many!

  15. Stephanie says:

fun and functional, and I love your crocs 😀 I’ve got a pair in periwinkle!

  16. allyson says:

Love the capri’s. A little late to the skin lotion comments but my suggestion is – go to Sephora. Tell one of the reps what your concerns are and they will most likely give you a few samples to try out. I really like Decleor (sp?) but my skin issues are much different than yours.

  17. Ann says:

Perhaps you need to remind Peter that he is no longer writing Barbie checks, and that in the scheme of things, loud running capris might be a good way for you to express that aspect of your personality 🙂
    (They’re cute.)

  18. Silvia says:

Those pants are great! Looks like you’ve mastered that new high tech sewing machine. Also, you are one toned, fit gal–you can wear whatever you want and look fantastic, so enjoy the fun bootay covering.

  19. Love the crocs, too! Mine are pink. Feels like I’m walking on foam rubber all the time.

  20. Did I say pink? I meant teal. Sheesh–I must have been coveting your cute pink ones.

  21. Dana says:

Peter should thank his lucky stars that you have a wild bottom.
