I think I need a new photographer

I made yet another skirt! It’s from yet another Japanese sewing book! The skirt’s a bit of a rump enhancer, and it makes me feel a little puffy and poofy, but it’s fun to wear, and it’s comfy, and those are the two criteria I generally go by for clothing.

Peter is a good sport about taking photos for me, but the photos always seem to be kind of distorted and weird and a little unflattering. The other day I was wearing my sailing skirt, and my friend Wendy said it looks better in person than in the photo. Peter says he has a tough time taking decent photos because my camera is so tiny, and his giant fingers can’t manipulate the little buttons. Anyway, if you could all pretend that the things I make are actually jaw-droppingly stunning in real life, I would really appreciate it.

it is lovely dearie! in fact…i might forego charlie rose tonight, and get into the ol studio and sew up something fancy for tomorrow.

maybe i’ll just flip through cotton friend and pretend i am making something tonight.

  3. Linster says:

Supercute! I really like the skirt as it is, but the fabric makes it amazing! Beautiful!

  4. Emma says:

    Very pretty.
    What rump ?!

  5. maryse says:

it’s very cute. i love the fabric as well.
is peter much taller than you? because i get the impression that these pictures are taken from above. maybe if he got on his knees, or sat in a chair when he took them, the angle would be more flattering.

Cute skirt! I have the same issues with my personal photographer. 🙂

  7. caitlyn says:

The skirt looks wonderful, Mariko! I like the fabric as well!

  8. Bee says:

Beautiful skirt! I’m dying to get my hands on fabric like that!
My photographer tends to get distracted very easily — if we’re shooting outside, he’ll see a squirrel and start taking pictures of that instead. So when I go to upload the pictures later, they’re full of wildlife and no knitting!

dude what shoes are you wearing there? they are super cute…but not as cute as the skirt! nor as deedle! smooches to you deeds, i miss you!!!
do you want to borrow my tripod? i can put a label on it that says “peter” so you can pretend it’s him. 🙂
maryse, peter is about twice as tall as she is, no joke! 🙂

Rump, my a$$. Nice skirt and what are those, more new shoes?

  12. Gina says:

They are that stunning! By the way, rump enhancer? We’ve got to make sure that becomes part of the starndard lexicon. I like it.

You are on a mean sewing streak!
PS the word “basenjis” was in the Sunday NYT crossword puzzle.

That skirt is stunning! Absolutely jaw-dropping! I love Deedle in that shot. She looks like she’s posing like you–with one paw in front of the other.

  15. michelle says:

Can you tell me what book the skirt is from? I have a skirt very similar to that made by “For The Repbulic” and have been looking for a similar pattern – Looks like you have it!

  16. Stella says:

Is Peter a super-tall guy? I think if he bent his knees a little and took your picture straight on, it would be less distorted.

  17. Julia says:

It’s so cute! I love the poofy design, it’s adorable.

I love that skirt, and you won’t believe it, but I have a purse made from the same fabric! You might see it at http://www.poesis.com but it’s a year old so she may not have it in current stock ~ And you are reminding me that I finished a skirt back in April that I don’t think I ever blogged.
