blankie with booties

I whipped up a little quilt sort of blanket for baby Zephyr. It won’t get there in time for his shower, but at least it will be there before he is born!

I didn’t really know what I was doing, but that’s okay, because I think a lot of innovation and creativity stems from ignorance (well, it wasn’t really the case in this situation, but I think the blanket will be functional). I sewed together some squares and backed the “quilt” with polarfleece (I have an embarrassing amount of black polarfleece. Last year I purchased 50 pounds of remnants from Malden Mills, and this is the first time I’ve used any of it). It is a small, lap-sized blanket. Now Zephyr has booties and a blankie.

Booties and blankie are both very cute! I had a friend who also succumbed to Malden Mills remnants, and she turned lots of them into no sew fringed scarves. I have a black one I use a lot. And double layers with quilt batting in between are outrageously warm. Oh wait, I just remembered you’re in CA…never mind 😉

I love–LOVE–the blankie. Love the rocket-motif squares. It’s totally going to end up as Zephyr’s security blanket, and it will be going to college with him.

Your quilt and booties are VERY cute! Is that a label in the lower right corner?

Zephyr’s gonna be one stylish kid! The quilt is darling. Did you quilt it on your sewing machine or use ties here and there?

How cute is that quilt! I’d never thought of polar fleece, I’ve only ever used flannel, and I’ve never quilted. Hmmmmm…
I like the polar fleece accessories idea Ann had. Butterick or one of those had a loopy scarf pattern featured. Just because it’s California doesn’t mean you can’t accessorize…

Ha, ha! Told you I was spying on you! The quilt is so bee-yoo-tiful. Juliana is going to love it so much! … I feel I should now say something about stitches or batting or whatnot, but you know I have never sewn, knitted or darned a single stitch.

Too cute, Mariko! I’ve done similar blankies with printed fleece and flannel squares — but I used ready-made satin blanket binding, and I think yours looks nicer. What bootie pattern did you use? I just finished a strawberry cap and would like to make booties to match.
