manual laboring

See all that gravel? I shoveled scoop after scoop of it today. I hadn’t really planned on helping with this job today, but I kind of felt I should after calling Peter a wimp (he wanted to rent some sort of loader thing to haul the gravel up and down the driveway, and I just wanted there to be one day of house work where nothing had to be rented). It was my job to shovel the gravel into the wheelbarrows, and Peter transported them. It took all day. Do construction workers eat big lunches, because I ate way too much at lunch and thus felt like throwing up after each shovel maneuver.

It turned out pretty well, and it does feel kind of good to do burly work once in a while. Of course, now my arms feel like they are going to fall off.
I finished the milk maiden dress, but it needs some altering. I’m going to go do that now unless I fall asleep first.

    That’s one nice looking driveway!

  2. John did his stairs one bucket at a time. He had 3 yards of gravel, I think. That’s a lot of trips with a bucket.
I helped him with his walkway, but I made him buy an extra-heavy-duty wheelbarrow. He got sunstroke, so it was kind of a bad deal for him. His walkway looks pretty good, though.

nothing like good ol’ hard work to make you feel good – especially when the results are so good looking!

    Lookin’ good …
Why didn’t the deliveryman back the truck into your driveway? That would’ve been easier for all concerned, no?
    God bless, Chtistine

and by altering, do you mean cuting slits in the sleeves so that your muscle bound arms can fit through? i thought so.

Who dumps several tons of gravel in the street? Talk about a road hazard!
