and round and round we go

I went on a bit of a sewing hiatus. I thought about sewing, but I just wasn’t motivated to physically engage in it. Luckily, I kicked that malaise this weekend.

The pattern is from the latest Japanese sewing book I got, another skirt book, but this one is not by Machiko Kayaki. I used a heavy black rayon, and the skirt is cut on the bias, so it drapes pretty nicely. The skirt in the book isn’t lined, but I decided to line it so I can wear it in the winter with tights (the lining is bright turquoise!). I spent Saturday afternoon embroidering those circles. I’m not very adept at handwork, so let’s just say my circles are a bit on the, ahem, primitive side.

Ooh, I love this one. Even Peter couldn’t have had anything bad to say about this one, surely! 🙂 And the embroidery is lovely.

I gasped when I saw it! It looks great, ooh, I’m so jealous, I have put my circle skirt on the back burner. (Too many projects!) Your skirt is so fabulous, great work! Your circles look just fine, circles are hard, mine are all crookedy.

lovely! the circles look perfect from here.
I poured over the books at the Uwajimaya bookstore (Kinokura?) here in Seattle and was totally intimidated by anything resembling a full-on sewing book. Good thing they had Cotton Time to rescue me… there are some human-sized sewing patterns but I have to tell you, at the Joann’s they act like they’ve never heard of pattern tracing paper. I will have to go farther afield.

So pretty! And I love the idea of the turquoise lining. Nicely framed picture, by the way. At first I thought this was a picture of the book’s picture of the skirt (if that makes any sense).

What a wonderful idea you did on the skirt – I like the look. All the sewing books you’ve shown are great, I think the styles won’t get dated too soon 🙂
