bustin’ out

I know it seems like I don’t knit or sew anymore. It sure seems that way to me! Well, I actually sewed a skirt recently. I may have been inspired by a little accident I had last week–my car drove itself to the local sewing center down the hill from us, and it came home with a new serger. I don’t know how it happened.

The pattern is from one of the Japanese skirt books I have (this one). I had some trouble with the fly and the waistband, but the pockets weren’t too difficult to put together. I’m not that crazy about the finished product, though. All these holiday sweets means I’m packing on some extra pounds, and this skirt is a little more snug than I like. It is also high waisted, which I can’t stand. So, I think I’m going to fiddle with the pattern a bit and make another one, since I do really like the styling of the skirt. Meanwhile, I’ll send this one to a friend and hope she likes it. Here’s the back (sorry for the fuzzy photo):

it is super cute except the high waisted thing would drive me nuts too, so i know how ya feel.

Another skirt from that great skirt book! I like the contrasting stitching, very cute. I understand about the fit, if it doesn’t feel right it’s not happening.
    Happy New Year!

High waisted or not, it looks great. And more importantly, looks great *on* you. But I know what you mean – I just can’t do the high-waisted thing either. It just feels wrong, somehow!

Good idea to send it off, in spite of its overall good-ness. Holiday pounds + high waisted can = button flying off upon a sneeze (sadly, this actually happened to me on xmas!).

I was so sorry to read of your accident 😉 (Must try that one on the husband!)

It really does look great on you. I wouldn’t have known there was a fit problem if you hadn’t mentioned it.
Are you sure you don’t just want to wait a month or so for the holiday pounds to go on their merry way?

I love the skirt. It doesn’t look that high-waisted …it looks really great with the boots too.

I am interested/enchanted with the idea of crafts, fabrics, etc. from countries outside the U.S. I viewed your collection of Asian books/patterns. How does one begin to search for items like these online? Thanks!
