yarn anxiety

I joined the Rogue Along Yahoo Group and from it I learned that the Auracania yarn that I got from elann is the incorrect weight of yarn! Argh! It is supposed to be an aran weight yarn but knits up more like a DK yarn. SO, I impulsively bought some of the Classic Elite Maya today from elann. Now I need to return the Auracania (unless someone out there wants it? It is a beautiful color, as you can sort of see from yesterday’s photo. I have six skeins in bayberry, and I’ll sell it for what I paid for it–$31.50 plus $4 for shipping. Let me know if you’re interested; otherwise, it’s going back to elann!).
Tomorrow I get to meet Rachael IN PERSON! We’re meeting for coffee and maybe some knitting (okay, so I’ve never met her before, but I am going to force her to teach me how to do the magic loop method!) in San Luis Obispo. Unfortunately, my dog wounded me while playing today, so I kind of have a fat lip. Peter suggests I don’t wear red, since that enhances the color of the lip gash. Thanks for that fashion tip, sweetie.

Love the disco dot! When you are cruising blogs can you look for blogs regarding dishes or tell me how to look them up? I love reading your links. Can’t wait to see you.

Did you offer to give him a matching fat lip? Too funny.
I’m jealous that you and Rachael get to meet! I know you’re going to have a blast together. Give her a big hug from me, OK?

Yay! You get to meet Rachael!
Love the fabrics. I finally figured out my sewing machine the other day so hopefully I’ll be able to add a few sewing projects to my list in addition to all my knitting WIPs. Thanks for the inspiration!

Mariko, I’ve recently run into “faux” Aran weight yarn too. The Cashmerino says 18/24, but its really not. It looks much better knit to a smaller gauge. Why do yarn companies lie??? I’m indignant…..;-) I’m looking for Rogue yarn too, but I’m in no rush. The right yarn will come along someday!

Bummer about the Araucania! I was going to use the same from my stash, but now,… I guess I’ve gotta reconsider. Hope the Maya works out for you!

The same thing happened to me with gauge and the yahoo group. I ordered yarn from elann (Peruvian Connection Highland Wool) based on the gauge given, then signed up for the group and started reading that my yarn wasn’t really the right gauge either. Urgh. I guess I’ll just wait until it arrives, swatch, and then decide. And if it’s no good, well, then I’ll just have some nice yarn in my stash complete with accompanying swatch for future reference.
