bbc wales rocks!

I told Marie how much I liked the BBC Radio Wales logo (her partner Andy works there), so she sent me some swag:

Woohoo! Score! T-shirt, bag, pencil, keychain, and even a dog collar thingy! There were some other goodies, too, like the Marie Claire magazine and a knitting mag:

I need my photographer

My photographer isn’t here, so I had to figure out the self-timer thing on my camera. It didn’t work very well. You’re lucky I’m not making you look at blurry photos of me waving my arms around. Anyway, I knit something! It took forever, but here it is, the Super Kay striped sweater!

You can tell I’m crouching down, can’t you, and you can probably see that my stripes are uneven because I cannot count. Anyway, the pattern is basically from Sarah Dallas’s Vintage Knits, which has loads of cute sweaters. I was gifted the yarn, Rowan Handknit Cotton DK, by the lovely and witty Kay. I love the colors, and the yarn is very soft and yummy. I adapted the pattern a bit to incorporate raglan sleeves, which I designed using the Knitware software I purchased at Artfibers. It worked! Another shot of the sweater, using the arm monopod instead of the self timer:

Okay, and now it might be a while before you see any completed crafty projects. I am going to try not to start any new knitting projects until after the move. TRY. Urgh.

one more item to pack

I’ve been trying not to bring new things into the house, because it just means I have to pack them. There must be exceptions, though, right? As my friend Wendy says, rules are just guidelines. SO, in the spirit of exceptions, I acquired a new Japanese craft book.

berry tasty

I had a bag of frozen cherries/berries from Trader Joe’s, and I’ve been trying to clear out the fridge and freezer, so I decided to make a cobbler/crisp thing.

crisp.JPG
I threw in a bunch of fruit, including the frozen berry mix, some frozen cranberries, a pear, nectarine, and a couple Granny Smith apples. I used the Easy Batter Fruit Cobbler recipe, which you can find here. I also put a streusel topping on it, because I believe in crunchy, sugary toppings. I just rubbed together 12 T of cold butter, a cup of flour, and 6 T of brown sugar. I then mixed in a cup of oats and plunked it on top of the cobbler.

Of course, you must have ice cream with it. It turned out okay. It would have been better if I had used a larger, shallower pan. I had so much fruit crammed into the baking dish that the cobbler stuff underneath didn’t fully bake. That didn’t stop me from eating it, though.

deedle takes no prisoners

Today I was outside watering the plants for just a few minutes. JUST A FEW MINUTES. I was on the phone with my brother, and for some reason we were talking about the crocheted kitty. I told him Deedle had no interest in Florence, and then I walked back into the house and witnessed this:

deedle attacking cat.JPG
Holy cow. Thankfully, it is not Florence. It’s another crocheted kitty I was in the midst of sewing together. The parts were given to me by Thuy, Deedle’s biggest fan and pal who had just been by an hour earlier!

“Oy, my achin’ head”

Of course, now the cat head smells like dog breath. Sigh.

bachelorette style

I’m afraid I don’t have much blog fodder these days. It’s just work and thinking about packing (which means I haven’t really gotten much packing done. Oops). I did go grocery shopping today, and I got something I haven’t eaten since college:

stouffers.JPG

This is what happens when I have to cook just for myself. I was totally busted in the frozen food aisle by a guy in my book group, but hey, he was buying Healthy Choice frozen meals, so he’s not much better off than I am!
And I’m sure most of you know about this already, but you can help those affected by Hurricane Katrina by making a purchase at the Crafters United shop on Etsy. Proceeds will be donated to the Red Cross.

here, kitty kitty

There hasn’t been much crafting going on around here as of late, but that doesn’t mean it ain’t happening at all! From the galaxy’s slowest crocheter (that would be me) I present Florence* the amineko (aka crocheted cat):

* Florence is the name of the woman whose house we are buying. I think she moved into a nursing home or something.
The crocheted kitty pattern is in, what else, a Japanese craft book. The ISBN is 4391130122.

I swear I was going to pack today

Really. My goal was to pack all the Fire King today, but I only got as far as bubble wrapping a few plates because Thuy came up from Santa Barbara, and we went kayaking in Morro Bay. It was my first time kayaking! We rented a tandem from a nice young boy who asked if we were “in school.” I didn’t take my camera, because I didn’t want it to get wet, but fearless Thuy brought hers, and she might have a few photos. But hey, I did get a photo of her with her post-kayak treat:

White chocolate mousse cake. Mmmmm. I had a dark chocolate version, and man, was it rich.
Tune in tomorrow for an actual finished object!
